KARIMOKU NEWSTANDARDは木と対話しながら高品質の家具を作り続けてきたカリモクが新たに取り組む、日本国内の広葉樹間伐材を使用した新ブランドです。社会問題を背景に持つ素材に正面から向き合い、カリモクの培ってきた技術に支えられた新しい時代のスタンダードを作ること。歴史を継承していくカリモクが試みる、新たな挑戦です。
Karimoku establishes a new design standard in Japan
Karimoku has been manufacturing wood into high quality furniture for a long time. With KARIMOKU NEW STANDARD, Karimoku launches a collection that represents a new approach to furniture design in Japan. International designers were invited to connect their talent with the know-how of Karimoku to create furniture that is contemporary and sustainable. With the aim to promote the conservation of forests, thinning wood, a common waste product of forestry, was used for all products.

座りたい時はスツールに、物を置きたい時はテーブルとして、使う人の意思によって住空間の中で様々な用途に変化する。機能を限定しないフレキシブルな家具の提案。
When sitting down it's a stool, when putting something down it's a side table: This 'two storey' object mixes typologies to constitute a versatile object that serves various purposes.
HOMERUN
SYLVAIN WILLENZアメリカのビンテージアニメからイメージされた、クラシカルな美しさとユーモラスな印象を付せ持った椅子。アニメの中から出てきた椅子を、高度な加工技術とコンテンポラリーなデザインによってシンプルで落ち着きのある、現代の椅子へと生まれ変わらせた。
Inspired from old cartoons, Homerun is characterized by cartoonish features, that have been rationalized to classic simplicity and elegance. It combines the charm of a deliberate naivety with perfect workmanship.
COLOUR WOOD
SCHOLTEN & BAIJINGS伝統的な木工品や間伐材の特徴である細い幅の木の使い方を研究し、デザインされたサイドテーブルのシリーズ。このシリーズの特徴である木の質感、色、印刷の柄で構成されるレイヤーは、コンテンポラリーな考えと伝統的な技術から生まれたこの作品を表現している。
This series of side tables explore crafts traditions and the characteristics of thinned wood. The symbolic superimposition of a contemporary conception and traditional values and techniques are reflected in overlaying various transparent layers: the texture of the wood, stain colour and printed graphic patterns.
SIGNS
BIG-GAME物を掛ける度にアームが動き、古代文字の暗号のような形を作り出すコートハンガー。未使用時は隠されたマグネットシステムによってアームは元の位置へと戻される。物を掛けるという日常の行為に遊び心を取り入れたデザイン。
Versatile, playful and of bold simplicity, this coat stand changes its appearance with the use: Pivotable arms fold out from a stem and seem to form the signs of an archaic alphabet. A hidden magnetic mechanism lets the arms snap back to their original position when they are not used.
NOOK
ISOLATION UNIT/TERUHIRO YANAGIHARA
一人で使用する時は部屋の隅に、二人の時は壁に寄り添うように、大人数だと部屋の中心へと、置きたくなる場所を示唆するベース形状を持つコートハンガー。ライフスタイルによって変化する現代の住宅事情が反映されたコートハンガー。
This modular coat stand develops with its users needs and his habitation. For one person, a single modul fits in a corner, for a couple, a set of two can be placed along a wall and for a larger space, as a set of four, it becomes freestanding.
TORII
KARIMOKU DESIGN TEAM日本の伝統的な形である鳥居をモチーフとした作品。存在感のある背もたれとまっすぐ伸びた後ろ脚が特徴のこの椅子は鳥居の持つ力強さを感じさせると同時に、現代の暮らしにもあう柔らかい印象を持ち合わせている。
This chair adapts the motif of the traditional shinto shrine archway, the Torii, an archetype of japanese aesthetics. The straight legs carrying the characteristic backrest convey the presence and strength of the Torii and give at the same time an impression of subtlety.
RIN
KARIMOKU DESIGN TEAM背もたれの高さを低くする事で自然と背筋が伸び、座る人を美しく見せる椅子。くつろぎの中でも適度な緊張感を持ち続ける、日本の美意識を表現した作品。背もたれとシートのファブリックを交換する事で様々な場所にも対応する。
Through the particular low design of the backrest, even when sitting comfortably and relaxed, an in Japan well-regarded elegant upright sitting posture is maintained. The cover fabric of the cushion can be changed to fit different surroundings.
HALFWAY
ISOLATION UNIT/TERUHIRO YANAGIHARA
一人では少しだけ大きく、二人で使うには少し窮屈なワイドのソファは、いつもよりゆったりでき、また普段より近くに感じることができる。従来のソファで敬遠される寸法をポジティブに捉えたデザイン。このモジュールの組み合わせで様々な使い方に対応できる。
Halfway has a particular size between the dimensions of a lounge chair and a double sofa: Spacious for one and a little narrow for two, it it is comfortable when on your own and makes you feel closer as a pair. Its modular parts can be freely assembled to create various shapes and sizes.
PILE
ISOLATION UNIT/TERUHIRO YANAGIHARA
通常外部にある流通用パレットをインテリアに持ち込み、家具に変換した作品。パレットの持つ流通の利便性は部屋の内部でも適応する。一つのモジュールだけの家具が、重ねることでブックシェルフやローテーブル等、機能や目的が変わり様々なライフスタイルに対応する。
Pile converts an industrial icon, the universal ‘palette’, into basic modular furniture, that adjusts to individual needs: Standing up, laid out flat or stacked up, it assumes different functions and works as a shelf or low table.
